NMB Staff

The Naperville Municipal Band would not function without the aid of various staff members. These people play a vital part in the day-to-day operations of the band. And as the band meets year round that's almost a full time job!

Ann Lord, concert moderator for the Naperville Municipal Band, began her love for band music as a third-grade student learning to play the clarinet.  Elmer Koerner was the only band instructor in Naperville; and, as did many others, Ann Good went to Naperville schools, through high school, playing under his direction.  She continued in the band for two years at Grinnell College in Iowa. During six summers of high school and college, she played in Naperville’s Municipal Band. The last two of those years found her announcing the numbers, also, going to the microphone from her band chair to do so.

With a major in speech and theatre from Grinnell College, Ann moved into a career path of broadcasting, becoming Women’s Program Director for CBS-affiliated station KGLO AM/FM/TV in Mason City, Iowa.  She wrote commercials and produced programs, often appearing in them on-air.

At KGLO she met and married John Lord, station announcer and director, who often directed her shows.  They became a well-known performing team at the station and throughout the area. John’s acceptance of a position with an industrial film company in Chicago brought them back to Naperville where the Municipal Band found Ann again and asked her to become its concert moderator, a position she has held for 57 years!  With John as sound engineer for the band, the life of the Lord family, including their three children, has always been very involved with band concerts.  During those years, Ann earned a Masters Degree in speech and taught at Naperville North High School for 20 years. Commenting on her long time with the band, Ann says, “If you stay in the same place, and continue to do something you love, the years move on easily and surprise you.”
